At some point in time in our lives, most of us probably wonder, “what would it be like to be the richest person in the world”.
Well, we certainly do not know the answer to that question but here are a bunch of people who could tell you more about that.
The Billionaires list hasn’t changed much compared to what we reported in 2018.

#1. Jeff Bezos (The Richest Man in the World, 2019)

Amazon.com’s chief Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world for the second consecutive year in 2019.
He toppled Microsoft’s Bill Gates in 2018 to gain the #1 position.
In 2018, Jeff Bezos became the first person to have crossed the $150 billion mark to become the richest person ever in modern history.
Despite his pending divorce, Jeff Bezos retains his top spot for now.
Apart from the e-commerce giant – Amazon.com, Bezos also owns The Washington Post and Blue Origin.

Bill Gates
Bill Gates has retained his position in this list and is placed second this year.
With his wife Melinda Gates, Bill Gates chairs The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, world’s biggest charitable foundation. The foundation works to save lives and improve global health. It is also working with Rotary International to eliminate polio.
Bill Gates has sold or given away most of his stake in Microsoft, and only holds just over 1% of the company’s shares.
To date, he has donated almost $39 billion worth of Microsoft stock to the Gates Foundation.
#3. Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett has remained at his third position on this list. He is one of the most successful investors of all time, and is known as the “Oracle of Omaha”.
He runs Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate which owns more than 60 companies, including restaurant chain Dairy Queen, auto insurance provider GEICO.
Son of a US Congressman, he bought his first stock at the age of 11 and first filed taxes at 13.
He has committed to donate more than 99% of his fortune to charity.
#4. Bernard Arnault (The Richest Person in France, 2019)

Bernard Arnault was placed number 5th in 2018’s list of the top richest person in the world. He oversees an empire of 70 brands including Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, Tag Heuer, and nearly 3,900 retail stores.
Arnault’s luxury goods group, LMVH, posted record sales and profits in 2018.
His father made a small fortune in construction. He put up $15 million from that business to buy Christian Dior in 1985. The bulk of his fortune is tied up in Christian Dior stock.
He’s the richest person in France and all of Europe.
#5. Carlos Slim Helú (The Richest Person in Mexico, 2019)

Carlos Slim Helu
Carlos Slim has moved two positions up in this list, compared to 2018, despite losing about $6 billion through 2018. He has previously held the #1 position in this list from 2010 to 2013.
Mexico’s richest man, Carlos Slim, and his family control América Móvil, Latin America’s biggest mobile telecom firm.
He also owns stakes in Mexican construction, consumer goods, mining, real estate companies and 17% of The New York Times.
#6. Amancio Ortega (The Richest Person in Spain, 2019)

Amancio Ortega
Amancio Ortega is the richest man in Spain. He is the founder and former chairman of Inditex Fashion Group, which is best known for Zara, one of the world’s largest apparel retailer.
Ortega has retained his 6th position on this list of Top 20 Richest Person in the World, though he has lost more than $10 billion in 2018.
He co-founded Zara parent Inditex with his ex-wife Rosalía Mera in 1975.
He’s invested in an ever-expanding real estate portfolio which includes buildings in Barcelona, Madrid, London, Chicago, Miami, and New York. He typically earns more than $400 million in dividends every year.
#7. Larry Ellison

Larry Ellison
Lawrence Joseph Ellison co-founded software giant Oracle in 1977 aiming to tap into the growing need for customer relationship management databases. He gave up the Oracle CEO role in 2014 but still serves as chairman of the board and CTO.
Oracle moved into hardware with its 2010 acquisition of Sun Microsystems, which invented Java programming language, for $7.4 billion.
Ellison joined Tesla’s board in December 2018, after purchasing 3 million worth of Tesla shares the same year.
#8. Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg
A Harvard dropout, Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook at the age of 19. He started Facebook for students at Harvard to match names with faces in class.
Mark took Facebook public in May 2012 and still owns 15% of Facebook’s stock.
He and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have pledged to give away 99% of their Facebook stake through their lifetimes.
He slipped from position number 4 last year, to 8th Richest person in the world in 2019.
In 2018, Zuckerberg testified before Congress after it was revealed that Facebook shared user’s data with political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica. Mark said his priority for 2019 is tackling social issues owing to criticism for abuse and fake news on Facebook.
#9. Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg
Michael Bloomberg is an American businessman, politician, author and philanthropist. He is the 9th richest person in the world.
Bloomberg co-founded media and financial information company Bloomberg L.P. in 1981.
He started on Wall Street in 1966 with an entry-level job at investment bank Salomon Brothers. They fired him 15 years later.
He owns 88% stake in Bloomberg LP which has revenue of more than $9 billion.

Larry Page
Larry Page heads Alphabet, the parent company of Google. He co-founded Google in 1998 with fellow Stanford Ph.D. student Sergey Brin.
With Brin, Page invented Google’s PageRank algorithm, which powers the search engine – Google.com.
Google went public in 2004 and changed its name to Alphabet in 2015.
At Google, he served as a CEO until 2001, then as president of products and again as CEO in 2011.
#11. Charles Koch

Charles Koch has been chairman and CEO of Koch Industries which is America’s second-largest private company in terms of revenue, since 1967.
His father, Fred C. Koch, improved a method of refining heavy oil into gasoline in 1927 and started the family business in 1940. He owns a 42% stake in the firm, as does his brother, David.
Charles and David bought their two other brothers’ stakes in 1983.

Mukesh Ambani is an Indian business magnate and chairs the $60 billion oil and gas giant Reliance Industries, a Fortune Global 500 company and India’s most valuable company by its market value.
Reliance was founded by his late father Dhirubhai Ambani, a yarn trader, as a small textile manufacturer in 1966.
After his father’s death in 2002, Ambani and his younger brother Anil Ambani divided the family empire.
In 2016, Reliance sparked a price-war in India’s hyper-competitive telecom sector with the launch of 4G phone service Jio. Jio has signed 280 million customers with services ranging from free domestic voice calls, dirt-cheap data, and virtually free smartphones.
Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani is the richest person in India.
He was placed on #18 in 2018’s list of top richest person in the world.

Sergey Brin works as President of tech giant Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
He co-founded the search engine firm Google with Larry Page in 1998, a fellow Stanford University Ph.D. student.

Brin previously headed the secretive Google X division, which made the Google glasses.

She became France’s reigning L’Oreal heiress in 2017 when her mother Liliane Bettencourt, then the world’s richest woman, died at the age of 94.

Ma Huateng is the richest person in China in 2019.
He owns the popular messaging app, WeChat, which boasts more than a billion users.
He has a low-profile style that befits his engineering background, compared to his outgoing rival at Alibaba, Ma Yun aka Jack Ma.
